Responsibilities of the ward master / nursing sister
  Mainly it can divided in to four parts.
1.Patient's care management.
2.OPD staff management.
3.Equipment management.
4.Communication with nursing department and coordination with other department.


Patient's care management.


1.Responsible for quality care of the patient in the ward for 24 hours everyday.
2.Responsible for admissions , referral , directions , guidance. 
3.Understand the condition of patients in the ward . Doing the ward rounds to observe the condition of each patient.
4.Responsible for patient's foods, drugs,cleanliness,mental status, economical situation and special nursing care diagnosis test. 
5.Give information to their guardian about patient's condition.
6.Protect patient's property , money and personal things.
7.If patient has communicable disease, separate the patient and inform infection control nurse, public health inspector, and educate other staff how to prevent the disease.
8.patient environment should be maintain clean and safely.
9.health advice should be given to patients.
10.guide the inspect to maintain records and report.
11.Analyse and evaluate nursing care.


OPD staff management


1.Guide to keep punctuality in the OPD
2.Create working schedule and maintain working schedule.
3.Guide and supervise nurses' duties.
4.Management health of ward personnel.
5.Understand the attitude of nursing staff and develop their abilities.
6.Monitor nurses performance based on nursing procedure and nursing standards.
7.Organize ward conferance and solve the problems.
8.Identify weakerpersonnel and guide them for improvement.
9.Maintain good communication among health team.
10.Create high moral.
11.Create learning environment.


Equipment management


1.Maintain inventory book for CSSD, Drug, Surgical item, Furniture, Linen,  Crockery and Hardware.
2.Obtain necessary article according to hospital policy.
3.Daily check emergency trolly, sucker and drug.
4.Store necessary article in good condition and monitor proper usage and consumption.
5.Train other staff to maintain all inventory books.


Communication with nursing department and coordination with other department

1.Communication and coordination with the other departments and other medical staff.
2.Participate ward managers conferences.
3.Report to chief matron and matronabout ward condition.(number of patients, nurses duty
  condition,problems of ward,nurses overtime, accidents etc.)
4.Take part as an night sister, if necessary.
5.Perform as an examiner in case of student examination.
6.accept outsiders and make necessary arrangements.


Nursing Care Delivery System

Forty Six nurses are working  in OPD. All of them are working under my supervision.We using  "TEAM METHOD" for care delivery. According to the team method, each unit function under the supervision of team leader.Each team leaders should be responsible me as a ward master of OPD.
